A stone in the forest - a beautiful canvas

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Still inspired by the Alta rock carvings I was driven to mobispray on a stone - and it should be deep in the woods of Lapland. After turning into a dirty road and driving for kilometers I found the ‘holy’ stone. Shortly after I had started spraying, I was already fascinated to experience how one can add something new to something existing and the outcome appears as something new, whole, unexpected beautiful and fitting into the nature, into the colorful tundra of Lapland.

The emerging textures on the surface of the stone totally interesting, too.

A colored Polar Bear

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Our MobiSpray summer 2008 tour brought us to Hammerfest. When we arrived we had the midnight sun shining directly into our faces, just beside this huge polar bear, the landmark of Hammerfest. Surprisingly the bear had a white surface and it took only minutes if not seconds for me to set up my gear - and there I was - mobispraying on this huge creature.

Alta rock carvings & MobiSpray

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

While driving through Norway on our MobiSpray summer 2008 tour, we passed by the city of Alta and its Alta Museum which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has some of the oldest rock carvings of the world on display in the real nature. Of course I didn’t dare to spray on the rock carvings - which in theory would have been possible to do - but I got at least inspired by them, simply to use rocks to mobispray on. Like the humans did few thousand years ago to draw with physical tools of their times, I do it with my digital tools of our time.

Through this my mind got triggered, that it might be interesting to study why people were drawing in caves and on stones and what kind of perception and meaning it created, but also what social impact it had. This could be useful knowledge to better understand MobiSpray in terms of what kind of perception it can invoke and how I could perhaps create new meanings through my own drawings.

After leaving the Alta museum we ended up driving by the Alta airport where I spotted a white Cesna plane just beside the fence, an ideal object to make it look like as I want it to be.

Painting Huts in Kilpisjärvi

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

The village of Kilpisjärvi in the northern part of Finland close to the norwegian border made us stay for a few days during the MobiSpray summer 2008 tour, since I had to complete writing a research paper and driving at the same time was therefore not an option. Kilpisjärvi seems to be a place to stay in winter when there is plenty of snow and snowmobile driving is possible everywhere.

We parked the motor-home this time at a camping site, and surprisingly at the site there were plenty of small huts made out of wood and most of them were painted in white color. This provided a good opportunity for me to try out some of my newly programmed features of MobiSpray, such as painting with newly taken photos.

Coloured snow in Tromsö

Monday, August 11th, 2008

During the Mobispray Summer 2008 tour we visited also Tromsö in Norway. After doing some sightseeing in the cosy small town I was eager to climb up the mountain and find some snow field that would allow me to spray on smow. Shortly after, I packed my rucksack with all the needed equipment to spray in the wild, and off I was in the middle of rocks.

Watch the video:

Through it was 1am in the night, the daylight was so strong that I was able to only spray with a ’small screen’, otherwise one couldn’t see any image in the snow.

This experience opened my eyes to the many possibilities to mobispray in dark Winter when we have snow everywhere in Finland. I will be able to build snow castles and paint them nicley, make all sorts of sculptures and dress them up etc. I really look forward to the coming winter to do all these things. The only thing is that it will be very cold, too and my fingers that operate the buttons of my mobilespraying mobilephone might terribly freeze.

Kemi ‘Stonehenge’ MobiSpraying

Monday, August 11th, 2008

During the Mobispray Summer 2008 tour our way passed on June 28th through Kemi, Lapland, where you find many shopping windows of shops that are shut down, which made us feel like being in a ‘Ghost city’. This inspired me to mobispray on these strange walls on the outskirts of Kemi and I called them ’stonehenge of Kemi’.

Oulu and Marimekko

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The fifth stop during the Mobispray Summer 2008 tour happend in Oulu, the city in which inhabitants have free Wireless Lan all over downtown thanks to the panOULU project.

But what does a ship in the Oulu river has to do with Marimekko, the finnish textil brand? Well its MobiSpray that brings the two together. By accident my mobispraying outcome on the surface of the ship that rests near Oulu downtown in the water appeard to look like a textil design pattern of the international brand. Could I actually do real textil design with MobiSpray? Why not, at least the more I use MobiSpray, the more it appears to be a useful tool for many design situations and design tasks.
